How to Prevent Antibiotic Resistent Skin Infections

More and more skin infections are being caused by germs that are very resistant to most antibiotics.  These infections are called Methicillin Resistent Staphylococcus Aureus or MRSA.  Prompt attention to cuts, abrasions, or other injuries to the skin may help to prevent your child from getting one of these very serious infections.  Wash any break in the skin thoroughly with soap and water as soon as possible. Keep the area clean and dry. Apply a topical antibiotic at the first sign of redness or pain. Keep fingernails clean and cut short. If there are signs of minor skin infection, change towels, washcloths, underwear, and sleepwear daily. If a wound is becoming increasingly red, hot, swollen or painful, call  us.
